The inner child is the part in our psyche that, irrespective of age, still retains its innocence, creativity, awe, and wonder toward life.
It is important that we stay connected with this sensitive part of ourselves. When we are connected to our inner child, we feel excited, invigorated, and inspired by life. When we are disconnected, we feel lethargic, bored, unhappy, and empty.
Inner child work, also referred to as inner child healing, is a way to address our needs that had not been met as children and heal the attachment wounds we might have developed. We all have a younger part of ourselves that was probably never quite loved the right way or the way we needed as a child.
Sometimes we may experience fear, perfectionism, anxiety or avoid certain people, places or experiences without any reason . These could be the manifestation of the fears we had developed as children that could never be addressed. It could lead us to certain behaviors, choices and thoughts based on unconscious beliefs or memories from the past. Inner child healing is a way to address our needs that haven’t been met as children and heal any wounds that we may have developed
By healing our inner child, we begin to create the safety and security our younger selves have always needed. By doing so, the positive traits of our inner child start to shine. We unlock our natural gifts, our inner curiosity, and our limitless capacity to love.
On the other hand, when we avoid addressing our past hurts and feel alone with them, they transform into behaviors destructive to ourselves and our environment, such as workaholism, alcoholism, or racism.
